The computer recognizes it, but the memory can't get recognized. It worked for a year and stopped working. I had to buy another reader.
It's been really good to me, I can't complain. I bought this reader back in 2004 or early 2005. However, we just bought a new camera that can use SDHC cards, and my trusty Lexar card reader won't read them.
I would recommend this. It is fairly compact and a good value for the money. I have a couple of these readers (home and office) and have been very satisfied with how they work. It reads most kinds of cards though I only use SD media. Much faster downloads than depending on the camera USB cable.
Anyway it seems to work pretty well without the case. Open the case (remove screw under label, pry open plastic), press on some parts, worked. Lexar USB2.0 reader went from erratic to consistently dead. Playing with the software was annoying, it seems to crash Windows Explorer or Computer management very easily. Suspect L1 very near the USB connector.
Pictures transfer fast and make it very convenient. Highly recomended. I've had this for 1.5 years, use it very often, and love it. Great product.
